New to Prisoncall?
Quick answers to help you decide which plan is right for you
Calling a mobile phone from a prison is extremely expensive. Prisoners are charged at high rates just to speak with their family, often burning through limited phone credits in minutes. Many families spend $300–$500 or more every month just to stay in contact.
Prisoncall solves this by giving you a dedicated local landline number. When your loved one calls that number from the prison phone system, the call is treated as a cheap local landline call, dramatically reducing the cost for them. And the best part? You don't need a landline at home. The call forwards directly to your mobile, so you can answer anywhere — at work, running errands, or picking up the kids, all without being tied to a home phone. Stay connected with your loved one without the financial stress, and without changing your life.
Prisoncall works exclusively for correctional facilities in Victoria (VIC) and New South Wales (NSW). Check if your prison is covered instantly using the prison checker above. It's free and takes seconds.
Customers save more than 70% on average compared to per-minute providers. With Prisoncall there are no credits, no top-ups and no per-minute charges. Just one flat subscription fee with unlimited minutes. Most customers who switched tell us they were spending over $500 a month before. Now they pay as little as $15 a week.
We offer four flexible plans — Weekly, Fortnightly, Monthly, and Quarterly. All plans include unlimited minutes with no per-call charges. The longer the plan, the better the value.
It's simple:
- Choose a plan and subscribe. It takes 2 minutes.
- We provision your dedicated local Prisoncall number within minutes of your order.
- You receive the number by SMS and email straight away.
- Save the number in your phone contacts.
- Give the number to your loved one at their next visit or phone call.
- Your loved one submits an application to the prison to add your Prisoncall number to their approved call list.
- The prison will make a verification call to your Prisoncall number. Answer it and confirm the number when asked. Quote your Prisoncall number, not your personal mobile number.
- Once verified and approved by the prison (typically 4–7 days), your loved one can call your Prisoncall number and you'll receive it straight on your mobile.
Your number is provisioned and delivered to you by SMS and email within minutes of your order being confirmed.
No, and this is one of the biggest benefits of Prisoncall. Many families used to think they needed to be sitting at home by a landline phone just to receive cheaper prison calls. With Prisoncall, your dedicated number forwards directly to your mobile. Answer calls at work, while shopping, while picking up the kids — wherever you are. You stay connected without being restricted to your home, and your loved one still benefits from the lower call rate. Life doesn't stop, and neither does your connection.
We don't support number porting. However, our setup is fast and easy. Your number is ready within minutes of ordering. Porting charges from your existing provider are typically very expensive and simply not worth it when getting started with Prisoncall is this quick.

Quick answers to help you get the most out of your new Prisoncall plan
After your loved one submits their application to the prison, the prison will make a verification call directly to your Prisoncall number, usually within 4–7 days. This is an important step that many people don't know about.
When that call comes through, make sure you answer it. The prison officer will ask you to confirm your number. Quote your Prisoncall number (not your personal mobile number). Once confirmed, the prison approves the number and your loved one can start calling. Make sure you answer all unknown incoming calls during this period — it could be the prison verifying your number.
This depends on your situation.
If your service is new: The most likely reason is that prison registration is still in progress. Check with your loved one that they have submitted the application. If they have, ask them to follow up with a prison officer about the status of the verification call. If verification calls have been made but calls still aren't connecting, your loved one should follow up directly with prison staff to confirm the number has been approved and added to the system.
If your service was working fine and has recently stopped: This may be a network issue on our end. Please submit a support enquiry below and our team will investigate immediately. We aim to resolve confirmed network issues within 4 hours. If the issue is not resolved within 24 hours, please submit an escalation and it will be treated as urgent priority.
Most of our customers choose to keep their existing Prisoncall number after a transfer. It's convenient and ensures their loved one can still reach them from the new prison while they get settled. The cost may be slightly higher if the new prison is in a different exchange area, but many customers prefer continuity while their loved one finds their feet.
If call costs increase significantly at the new prison, we'll provide you with a new number matched to the new prison's local exchange, completely free of charge. Your old number stays active for 15 days so no calls are missed during the transition. Just log in to My Prisoncall to request a prison change.
